Amazon is looking to transform the retail buying experiencing by eliminating cashiers and self-checkout lines in retail stores.
The e-commerce giant announced it’s piloting the “Amazon Go Store” a box store where shoppers walk in, grab what they want, and walk out, according to Real Estate Tech News.
Shoppers will simply download the Amazon Go app and swipe their smart phone when they enter the store. Every item picked up and added to their physical cart is detected and registered in a virtual shopping cart. Items returned to the shelf will automatically be subtracted from the shopping cart. Upon exiting, a receipt is automatically calculated and the shopper’s account is charged.
Amazon is planning to open its first store to the public in Seattle in early 2017, which will include ready-to-eat meals, snacks, and additional grocery staples.
