Mortgage Rates Take a Breather, But Are Higher than Last Year

For the second week in a row, Realtor.com reports that Freddie Mac published the following national averages with mortgage rates for the week ending Jan. 12:

  • 30-year fixed-rate mortgages: averaged 4.12%, with an average 0.5 point, dropping from last week’s 4.20%. Last year at this time, 30-year rates averaged 3.92%.
  • 15-year fixed-rate mortgages: averaged 3.37%, with an average 0.5 point, falling from last week’s 3.44%. A year ago, 15-year rates averaged 3.19%.
  • 5-year hybrid adjustable-rate mortgages: averaged 3.23%, with an average 0.5 point, falling from last week’s 3.33%. A year ago, 5-year ARMs averaged 3.01%.
